QAI provides accredited structural testing for building products at our Rancho Cucamonga, CA facility. If your wall system, floor panel, or anchor product requires code compliance data, a Los Angeles Research Report (LARR), or testing for an ICC-ES evaluation report, QAI runs the full program from product sampling to testing and issuance of the final test report.
Our lab operates three dedicated structural frames for static and seismic wall testing (under ASTM E72, E564 and E2126), a floor diaphragm program under ASTM E455, and an anchor testing program under ASTM E488, covering the most common ASTM structural test standards for building products.
Building products structural testing measures the strength, stiffness, and ductility of construction assemblies under defined loading conditions per the test specifications, acceptance criteria, and structural design requirements. Tests are conducted on full-scale or representative specimens and produce data used in code compliance evaluations, product certification programs, and engineering reports.
Testing areas covered at QAI:

Racking shear testing establishes wall panel design values

Cyclic loading qualifies wall systems for seismic zones

Floor diaphragm shear capacity for structural design data

Anchor pull-out testing in concrete and masonry
Building codes in the United States and Canada require structural performance data from an accredited laboratory before construction products can be used in load-bearing or lateral force resisting applications. Without that data, your product cannot obtain a certification and/or listing, and building officials will not approve its use on permitted projects. In California and Florida, products must additionally comply to jurisdictional codes. For structures in high seismic zones, cyclic racking sheer load test results per ASTM E2126 are increasingly required alongside static ASTM E72 and E564 data, and design values based on untested configurations are not accepted by most code evaluation bodies.

Scope Covered by QAI |
|
ASTM E72 |
Standard Test Methods of Conducting Strength Tests of Panels for Building Construction |
Racking shear, axial (compressive), transverse, combination, and concentrated load testing of wall, floor, and roof panels. Primary standard for establishing static design values. |
|
ASTM E564 |
Standard Practice for Static Load Test for Shear Resistance of Framed Walls for Buildings |
Static racking shear load, strength, and stiffness of framed wall assemblies. Stand-alone reference standard, closely related to the racking portion of ASTM E72. |
|
ASTM E2126 |
Standard Test Methods for Cyclic (Reversed) Load Test for Shear Resistance of Vertical Elements of the Lateral Force Resisting Systems for Buildings |
Cyclic seismic shear stiffness, shear strength, and ductility of shear wall assemblies including wood frame, light gauge steel frame, and structural insulated panels (SIPs). |
|
ASTM E455 |
Standard Test Method for Static Load Testing of Framed Floor or Roof Diaphragm Constructions for Buildings |
Static shear capacity and stiffness of framed floor and roof diaphragm assemblies. Produces load-deflection data needed for structural design. |
|
ASTM E488 |
Standard Test Methods for Strength of Anchors in Concrete and Masonry Elements |
Tensile and shear strength of cast-in-place and post-installed anchors (mechanical, epoxy/adhesive) in cracked and uncracked concrete under static, seismic, fatigue, and shock loading. See dedicated anchor testing page at qai.org/building-products/concrete-anchor-testing-astm-e488/ |
|
ASTM E330 / E330M |
Standard Test Method for Structural Performance of Exterior Windows, Doors, Skylights and Curtain Walls by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference |
Structural performance of fenestration and curtain wall assemblies under uniform static air pressure (simulates wind load). See Hurricane Impact Testing and Certification for Windows and Doors at qai.org/building-products/windows-doors-hurricane-impact-testing-certification/ |
