QAI holds many accreditations as a certification body for specific services, including the International Accreditation Service (IAS), Standards Council of Canada (SCC), and is recognized by OSHA as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The scope of QAI’s accreditations may be found on the QAI accreditation webpage. Products labeled per the markings section below are considered certified by QAI.

What does certification mean?

Certification means QAI has evaluated a representative product to determine compliance with the standard referenced on the certification label. QAI permits our client to use the QAI certification mark after the client has demonstrated through a factory inspection that they have the capability of manufacturing a consistent product and have a quality control system in place which, if followed, would result in a compliant product. QAI performs routine factory inspections to validate that the manufacturer continues to maintain a quality system that has the ability to produce a product that is consistent with the original product that was evaluated by QAI.

The use of a certification label is the manufacturer’s representation that it has followed the process that was reviewed by QAI in manufacturing the product and that the product remains compliant with the relevant standard. It is not a representation by QAI that the specific product bearing the label actually conforms to the applicable standard.

The authority having jurisdiction will typically accept a product that bears the certification mark of an accredited certification body; however, the authority is not bound to accept certification labels and retains authority over acceptance of the product. QAI makes no representation or warranty that any regulatory authority will accept its certification.

Requirements

Products certified by QAI have been found to comply with the requirements of the particular standard(s) shown in the particular product listing.

Markings

Products are marked with the QAI Certification Mark which may include specific identifiers as specified on the listing page. The certification mark is typically accompanied by the QAI listing number (file number) and the particular product standards as noted on the listing page. As an example, the listing number for the below product is E100347 and the applicable standard used to evaluate the product is CSA C22.2 No 12. The product is marked with the ‘C’ identifier towards the bottom, left corner of the QAI certification mark indicating compliance with Canadian requirements.

Products labeled with either of the certification marks shown below have been found to meet the requirements for listing for the US market. US certification is based on QAI’s International Accreditation Service (IAS) accreditation. When ‘NRTL’ is placed below the certification mark the product also falls within QAI’s OSHA NRTL certification program.

Products labeled with the certification mark shown below have been found to meet the requirements for listing for the Canadian market. Canadian certification is based on QAI’s Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accreditation.

Products labeled with either of the certification marks shown below have been found to meet the requirements for listing for both the US and Canadian markets. When ‘NRTL’ is placed below the certification mark the product falls within QAI’s OSHA NRTL certification program.

QAI Classified Mark:

This mark is used on products that have been evaluated against a portion of a published criteria and may have obtained a specific rating or performance value. As an example, this mark may be used when QAI has evaluated a component of a finished product to the portion of the standard that is applicable to that component. The certifier of the finished product would be expected to validate that the component is used or installed in a suitable manner. The C and US country indicators are optional.

QAI Verified Mark:

This mark is used on products that have been evaluated against a published criteria such as a manufacturer’s own criteria. QAI performs routine factory inspections to validate that the manufacturer continues to maintain a quality system that has the ability to produce a product that is consistent with the original product that was evaluated by QAI. The US and C country indicators are optional.

QAI Green Environmental Mark:

This mark is used on products that have been verified by QAI to comply with an environmental claim or energy efficiency requirement. QAI performs routine factory inspections to validate that the manufacturer continues to maintain a quality system that has the ability to produce a product that is consistent with the original product that was evaluated by QAI. The US and C country indicators are optional.
