Fermacell 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) thickness gypsum boards comply as Type X per ASTM C1396 requirements1,2.
Note 1: Fermacell 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) Type X double layer system for use as finish flooring, per 2020 National Building Code of Canada (NBC), Section 3.1.6.6 2) applies, where two layers of Type X gypsum board of 12.7 mm are deemed to have an encapsulation rating of 50 minutes where installed following the NBC specified fastening. Fermacell 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) products comply ASTM C1396/C1396M and are installed with the joints in each layer staggered from those in the adjacent layer. Installation does not require fasteners to hold the Fermacell 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) gypsum boards in position in event of fire as the product is intended for use as finish flooring. The noted products are considered to comply with 50-minute encapsulation requirements where used over mass timber flooring.
Note 2: Fermacell 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) Type X boards meet requirements for use in prescriptive assemblies as outlined in the respective model codes, where Type X 12.7 mm (1/2-inch) gypsum boards are specified in wall and ceiling applications.
