Announcing the publication of the 2023 Alberta Edition of the National Building Code (NBC(AE) 2023).

Effective date:
The 2023 Alberta Edition of the National Building Code will be in effect starting May 1^st, 2024. All building permits applied for on or after this date must comply with the requirements of the NBC(AE) 2023.

Who is affected:
All manufacturers whose products have been tested under the previous standards for applicable residential and/or commercial windows, doors, and skylights selling into the province of Alberta will be affected.

What action will be required:

Thermal Modelling – To ensure that you are compliant with the upcoming regulations, we ask that you review your QAI listing evaluation reports and thermal modeling reports to determine what products require update. Products that have been certified to versions prior to those detailed in the new edition as outlined in the table below, will need recertification to the updated CSA A440.2-2019 method due to changes in the thermal modeling method.

NAFS – To ensure that you are compliant with the upcoming regulations, we ask that you review your NAFS test reports to determine products requiring update. Products evaluated to versions prior to those detailed in the new edition as outlined in the table below, will require re-evaluation to ensure compliance with the new NAFS 2017 specifications as required by the NBC(AE) 2023.
