Z240RV Recrational Vehicles

This category covers Recreational Vehicles manufactured at a factory location.  Recreational Vehicles are defined by the CSA Z240 RV Series standard as a vehicular-type unit that is primarily designed as temporarily living quarters for recreational, camping, or seasonal use; has its own motive power or is mounted on or towed by another vehicle; does not require a special highway use permit for operation on the highways; and can be easily transported and set up on a daily basis by an individual.  Types of recreational vehicles include: folding camping trailers, fifth-wheel trailers, motor homes, truck campers and travel trailers.  Recreational Vehicles in Canada must comply with all requirements of the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act and the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulation as enforced by Transport Canada.  

QAI is a Standards Council of Canada (SCC) accredited certification body.  Products included in this category and labelled per the markings section below are considered certified by QAI under QAI’s SCC scope of accreditation.  

Requirements

Products covered by this category have been evaluated to the requirements of CSA Z240 RV Series “Recreational Vehicles”.  Included in this standard are:

1. Z240.0.2 “General Requirements for Recreational Vehicles”
2. Z240.1.2 “Vehicular Requirements for Recreational Vehicles”
3. Z240.3.2 “Plumbing Requirements for Recreational Vehicles”
4. Z240.4.2 “Installation Requirements for Propane Appliances and Equipment in Recreational Vehicles”
5. Z240.6.2 “Electrical Requirements for Recreational Vehicles”

The CSA Z240 RV Series standard and the QAI certification program do not cover structural aspects of the trailer.  

Markings

In addition to the warning markings required by the applicable standard, products are marked with the following:

Recreational Vehicle Specification Nameplate – typically located on the inside of a kitchen cabinet door

QAI certification label – one of the following, typically located on the exterior of the RV in close proximity to the main entrance

1. Motor Home (Class A or Class C),
2. Camper Van (Class B Motor Home),
3. Single Axle Travel Trailer (includes 5th wheel trailer),
4. Tandem Axle Travel Trailer (includes 5th wheel trailer and multi axle trailers),
5. Fold-Down Trailer (Tent Trailer), or
6. Slide-in Camper (Truck Camper)
