Dear Valued Client,
|
We are sharing a friendly reminder that an amendment to Ontario’s Energy Efficiency regulation (O. Reg. 509/18) under the Electricity Act 1998 was filed on June 30, 2020 as O. Reg. 334/20. Changes in regulation require that windows, intended for low-rise residential buildings, must be tested to one of the following standards:
Effective date
Window product with the date of manufacture January 1, 2022 or later.
Scope of application
A window that separates heated space from unheated space or from the exterior air and that is to be installed in a building that is partially or entirely used for residential occupancy, has a building area not exceeding 600 square meters and has a building height of three stories or less. Please reference Ontario’s Energy Efficiency website to reference windows that are excluded from the scope of application (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/regulation/180509). Many window & door manufacturers have tested their products to older editions of the CSA A440.2 standard that no longer complies with the Ontario Energy Efficiency Regulation. The latest edition of CSA A440.2 referenced in the regulation includes updated material property data and boundary conditions that may impact product ratings. It is necessary to review your prior test reports with QAI and come up with a strategy to ensure your certification file is compliant with the regulation prior to the effective date.
What action will be required
At this time, to ensure that you are compliant with the current regulations, we ask that you review the thermal modelling reports used for your current certification with QAI to determine which models are reported to prior editions of CSA A440.2. If you wish to have QAI review your listing for compliance, please contact your account manager for a quote.
Prescribed efficiency standard or requirement:
Upon review, you may determine that thermal modeling should be re-conducted to the updated version of the standard.
If there are any questions regarding the above or for quoting activities to update your models, please do not hesitate to contact Mahmud Amin at mamin@qai.org.
Sincerely,
QAI Laboratories
