QAI is a Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB)

QAI is a Telecommunication Certification Body (TCB) designated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to certify wireless products for the US market. The radio equipment intended and sold in the US shall be compliant with FCC requirements prior to entry to the marketplace. The product must be tested in an FCC listed test laboratory which is ISO 17025 accredited. The US and Canada have very similar certification guidelines with few minor differences.

If you are a start-up, design team, manufacturer or an importer, you can follow our three step guide to launch your radio equipment to the US market:

1.  Testing of radio equipment in an FCC recognized accredited testing laboratory

• • • QAI or any ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratory can perform the testing, but the laboratory must be recognized and registered with FCC.

2.  Marking of the radio equipment with key information such as labelling, is outlined below. Use the links at the end of the guide for detailed information:

• • • Apply for a 10-digit FCC Registration Number (FRN). This number is unique to the applicant, and it identifies applicant’s transactions with the FCC. There is no fee to register with the FCC for an FRN.
    • Apply for a 3- or 5-digit FCC Grantee Code as per Title 47 CFR Section 2.926. This is done after applicant has registered for the FRN. This is first part of each FCC identifier (FCC ID).
    • The certification label is an FCC ID mark consisting of the FCC Grantee Code and a product identifier.
    • Prepare and complete FCC’s Form 731 or Form 740.

3.  Preparation of documents as outlined in 47 CFR Part 2. A partial list is provided below; for detailed information use links at the end of the guide:
