Radio Frequency (RF)
Emissions / Immunity
Electromagnetic emissions relates to the radio frequencies emitted from the electrical/electronic devices over the air or through I/O and AC mains during normal operations. These electromagnetic waves can interfere with the normal operation of other electronics. The emissions tests are separated into two tests as follows:
Preliminary – Radiated & Conducted Emissions For R&D or full compliance, the first step is to start with the preliminary radiated and conducted emissions which are performed in our 3 meter or in our 5-meter Semi-Anechoic Chambers (SAC). There are many advantages for testing in the Semi-Anechoic Chambers, which includes no ambientes, no RF signals, accurate data, repeatable results and controlled environment. For R&D purposes, performing preliminary scans in a Semi-Anechoic Chamber is the preferred method by most design engineers.
Final – Radiated & Conducted Emissions
Once the favorable results are achieved during the pre-compliance, the product under test moves forward to full compliance testing. The final emissions testing will be performed as per the applicable standard, the frequency range can be from 9kHz to 40GHz.
Electromagnetic Immunity relates to the product’s ability to withstand specific levels of external electromagnetic interference in the air, or through AC/DC mains and on I/O lines. To fullfill the legislated requirements of immunity six tests are mandatory:
The laboratory at QAI is equipped with 3m, 5m and 10m Semi Anechoic Chambers and Open-Air Test Sites. All our Semi Anechoic Chambers (SACs) meet NSA requirements for ANSI 63.4 and ANSI 63.7 from 30 MHz to 1 GHz and CISPR Site VSWR requirements up to 18 GHz. If needed, the final 3 meter or 10-meter RF emissions testing can be completed at our state-of-the-art Open Area Test Site (OATS).
The OATS is a partially enclosed 3m and 10-meter site, the central enclosure is constructed from non-reflective materials including plastic and nylon fasteners. Every Semi Anechoic Chamber is constructed with a fully shielded room at the front and at the back with proper filters. Every effort is made to eliminate ambientes entering the EUT to provide efficient data.
